Keep team membership in sync with your groups

Organization admins can now link groups to teams so team membership updates on its own, and the option is open to more Atlassian Guard customers. It has been rolling out to Atlassian Cloud sites since 4 Nov 2026.

What it is

Improvement

A team can be tied to a group, and its membership then follows that group. People who join or leave the group are added to or dropped from the team. This works with groups created in Atlassian and groups that come from an identity provider. The option was previously tied to a Premium or Enterprise plan, and it now also covers Atlassian Guard Standard and Premium.

Admins

Organization admins connect a group to a team from Directory, then Groups, in Atlassian Administration, and manage membership through the group instead of editing each team by hand.

Written from Atlassian's release note and checked against it automatically. Atlassian's original stays the source of truth.

Before it lands

  1. Identify which teams should follow an existing group.
  2. Connect each chosen group to a new or existing team in Directory, then Groups.
  3. Create a new team for any group synced from your identity provider, since existing teams cannot be used for those.

Fixed scope. The assessment starts at the identity layer: human and non-human access, the accounts nobody owns, and what has to be true before an agent gets one. You get the findings, the ownership gaps, and the order to close them in.
