Loom’s New AI Meeting Notes in Confluence

Loom’s latest AI integration automatically turns your video meetings into organized Confluence pages.

In back-to-back meetings, capturing what happened in each one can become a job in itself. Many teams struggle with writing and organizing meeting minutes, often relying on one person to frantically take notes. The result? Key decisions or action items might slip through the cracks, and those who missed the meeting are left in the dark. Considering that an estimated 72% of meetings are considered ineffective, finding a better way to document and share meeting outcomes is crucial. Loom’s new AI-powered meeting notes feature tackles this challenge head-on by automatically creating structured meeting notes from your video meetings and publishing them to your personal Confluence space. This integration promises to save time, reduce manual work, and ensure that no insight from your discussions gets lost.

Why Automate Meeting Notes?

Effective meeting documentation is the backbone of knowledge sharing and project continuity. However, taking detailed notes in real time is tedious and prone to error. Important points can be missed, and the note-taker often can’t participate fully in the discussion. Automating meeting notes changes the game by offloading this task to technology:

  • Stay focused on conversations: When Loom’s AI is capturing notes, everyone in the meeting can concentrate on the discussion instead of worrying about writing things down. Your team can stay fully engaged without multitasking, since Loom is tracking what’s being said and even flagging action items so nothing falls through the cracks.

  • No more lost details: By having every meeting’s transcript and key points automatically saved, you create a reliable record of what was discussed. This means no lost knowledge: decisions, ideas, and follow-up tasks from the meeting are documented and easy to find later. Even teammates who couldn’t attend can quickly get up to speed.

  • Consistency and accuracy: AI-generated notes ensure that the same format is used for every meeting. They capture the full conversation objectively, reducing the risk of personal bias or forgetfulness. You’ll have consistent meeting records that are time-stamped and searchable.

  • Improved productivity: Ultimately, automating notes helps reclaim time. Instead of spending an extra 15 minutes after each meeting writing a recap, the summary is ready almost immediately. Meetings become more efficient when participants know they don’t need to jot everything down, and follow-ups are clearer with documented action items.

With automation taking care of the heavy lifting, teams can rethink their approach to meetings. Discussions become more about decision-making and less about transcription. In short, Loom’s new feature turns meeting note-taking from a chore into a seamless part of your workflow, all while keeping your team on the same page.

How Loom’s Automatic Meeting Notes Work

Loom’s latest feature integrates directly with Atlassian Confluence to transform how meeting content is saved and shared. Here’s how it works at a high level:

  • AI-Powered Transcription: When you record a meeting using Loom’s AI Meeting Recorder, the audio and video are automatically transcribed in real time. Loom’s AI listens for key points, decisions, and action items during the conversation.

  • Instant Summary & Action Items: After the meeting ends, Loom generates a concise summary of the discussion, including any tasks or decisions that were identified. If you’re on a supported plan, the AI will highlight action items (e.g. “John will send the report by Friday”) and important takeaways from the call.

  • Automatic Confluence Page Creation: Once the recap is ready, Loom automatically creates a meeting notes page in Confluence. This page includes the meeting summary, list of attendees, date/time, transcript excerpts, and action items in a neatly formatted layout. You don’t have to copy-paste a single word; the integration publishes the content for you.

  • Personal Space Organization: The notes page lives in the meeting organizer’s Personal Space in Confluence (within a special "AI-Powered Meeting Notes" section). This keeps your meeting documentation organized by user, and it’s private by default. Only you and the meeting invitees who have Confluence access can see the page initially, since it’s created with restricted permissions. This means your notes won’t clutter up shared team spaces unless you choose to move or share them, giving you control over visibility.

  • Notifications and Sharing: Loom doesn’t just drop the notes in Confluence and call it a day. It also helps alert the team. A link to the Confluence meeting notes page can be shared in the meeting chat as soon as it’s ready (so everyone in the call knows the notes are available). Additionally, Loom’s usual email recap will include a link to the Confluence page. Team members who missed the meeting or want to revisit what was discussed can simply click through to the notes in Confluence.

  • Seamless Atlassian Ecosystem Integration: Because the meeting notes are stored in Confluence, they become part of your team’s knowledge hub. Everyone with the right permissions can search for keywords in Confluence later and find these notes, alongside related project pages or past documentation. In effect, your meeting conversations become searchable content in the same place where the rest of your project documentation lives, reinforcing Confluence as a single source of truth for your team’s knowledge.

What This Means for Your Team

For current and prospective Loom users, this new integration isn’t just a fancy add-on; it’s a workflow enhancer. By automatically bridging Loom and Confluence, teams can work smarter and collaborate more effectively. Here are a few ways this feature impacts day-to-day teamwork in a positive way:

  • Truly Inclusive Meetings: Not everyone can attend every meeting, especially in distributed teams or busy project schedules. Now, when someone misses a meeting, they don’t have to chase colleagues for an update. They can find the meeting’s notes page in Confluence and get the complete picture of what was discussed and decided. This fosters transparency and inclusivity, ensuring everyone stays aligned whether or not they were in the room (or on the call).
  • Reduced Meeting Fatigue: Knowing that an AI assistant has the note-taking covered, organizers and attendees alike can consider shortening their meetings or having them less frequently. Teams might replace a status update meeting with a quick Loom recording, confident that the important points will be documented automatically. Less time in meetings and note-writing means more time for actual productive work.
  • Enhanced Knowledge Sharing: Each meeting note page becomes a valuable knowledge artifact. Need to remember why a certain decision was made last month? Just search Confluence and pull up the meeting notes. New team members or stakeholders can also browse past meeting pages to catch up on project history. The integration effectively turns ephemeral conversations into lasting resources, strengthening your knowledge base. Atlassian emphasizes working from a single source of truth for a reason: when all your information is in one place, it’s easier to find and trust.
  • Professional Documentation with No Extra Effort: The meeting notes generated by Loom are clean, structured, and professional-looking. They follow a consistent format with sections for the meeting summary, attendees, transcript, and action items. This means your organization’s documentation standards improve naturally. Every meeting yields a well-formatted Confluence page without anyone on your team having to manually create it. Over time, this level of organization reflects positively on project management and even external audits or reviews; you’ll always have records to point to.
  • Integration with Your Existing Tools: Since Confluence is part of the Atlassian suite, those meeting notes can be linked or referenced in Jira issues, Trello boards, or other places your team works. For example, if a meeting resulted in a decision affecting a Jira task, you can paste the Confluence page link into the Jira ticket for context. The Loom-Confluence integration essentially feeds important information directly into the tools you use to track work, keeping everything connected.

From startups to enterprise teams, anyone using Loom for meetings can benefit from this feature. It ensures that the knowledge from conversations doesn’t evaporate when the call ends. Instead, that knowledge becomes a living document that teams can refine, comment on, and refer back to. At Atlas Bench, we’re excited to see how this capability helps teams collaborate with less friction; it aligns perfectly with the Atlassian mission of unleashing the potential of every team.

Getting Started with Loom’s Meeting Notes in Confluence

Ready to try out this new Loom feature and turbocharge your meeting documentation? Getting started is straightforward. Below are the basic steps and requirements to begin using automatic meeting notes:

  1. Meet the Requirements: Make sure you have an Atlassian Confluence Cloud subscription (Standard or higher, since the meeting notes feature isn’t available on the free Confluence plan) and that you’re on a Loom plan that supports AI meeting recaps (Business+ AI or Enterprise plan). You’ll also want to have a Personal Space in Confluence; this is where Loom will publish your notes. (Tip: In Confluence Cloud, every user can have a personal space; if you haven’t used yours yet, now is a good time to set it up.)

  2. Link Loom to Atlassian: Connect your Loom account with your Atlassian account. If your organization uses Atlassian Access or you log in to Loom using your Atlassian credentials, ensure that the accounts are properly linked. This connection is what allows Loom to publish pages to your Confluence. You might need to authorize Loom in Confluence (for example, granting the Loom app permission to create pages on your behalf). This is usually done via the Loom app marketplace listing or through an authorization prompt when you first enable the feature.

  3. Enable Loom’s Meeting Recorder: In your Loom settings, go to the Meeting Recording section and enable the AI-powered meeting notes feature. You may have options to toggle “Auto Summary” or similar AI settings; turn these on so Loom knows to generate summaries and notes for each meeting. (This feature may still be labeled Beta, so don’t be surprised if it’s updated over time.)

  4. Schedule and Record a Meeting: Set up a meeting on your calendar (Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.) and invite Loom’s AI Meeting Recorder (often called the Loom Notetaker bot) if it’s not added automatically. When the meeting starts, Loom will join as a participant and begin recording. You might see a notification in the meeting chat that Loom is recording and taking notes.

  5. Review Your Notes in Confluence: Shortly after the meeting ends, check your Confluence personal space. You should find a new page (usually within a folder named "AI-Powered Meeting Notes" or similar) with the title of your meeting. Open it to review the AI-generated content. You can edit the page to add any clarifications, attach files, or make corrections as needed. By default, the page is shared only with people who were invitees of the meeting (and who have Confluence access), but you can adjust permissions or share the page link with others if appropriate.

  6. Integrate the Notes into Your Workflow: Treat these Confluence pages as living documents. Comment on the meeting page to discuss follow-up items, or tag teammates in the notes to prompt them to take action on tasks. You can link the meeting notes page from related project pages or Jira issues for easy reference. Because it’s standard Confluence content, you have all the power of Confluence: you can move the page to a team space if it’s a long-term reference, label it, or even export it if needed.

By following these steps, you’ll be up and running with automated meeting notes. The first time you set it up, you might spend a few minutes ensuring permissions and settings are correct. After that, it becomes a hands-off convenience: every meeting you record with Loom will yield a useful Confluence page without any extra effort from you or your team.

As Atlassian Solution Partners, we at Atlas Bench see this feature as more than just a new tool; it’s a step toward smarter teamwork. When you remove the grunt work of transcribing meetings, what remains is more focus, more accuracy, and more time to drive projects forward. By automatically sending Loom meeting transcripts to Confluence, your team’s knowledge base grows organically after each discussion. This not only saves time, but also creates a culture where information is readily available and transparent.
