Assets: User picker permissions

Assets gets its own permission for who can find people and groups in user pickers, replacing the Jira global permission it relied on. It has been rolling out to Atlassian Cloud sites since 11 May 2026.

What it is

Improvement

Assets now manages user and group picker access through a dedicated permission set in Assets settings. It no longer requires the Jira global Browse users and groups permission. An automatic update copies existing Jira permissions into the new Assets model so current access stays consistent.

Admins

Assets admins can set who finds people and groups in user pickers from a new User picker page under Global permissions in Assets settings.

Written from Atlassian's release note and checked against it automatically. Atlassian's original stays the source of truth.

Before it lands

  1. Open Assets settings, then Global permissions, and review the User picker page.
  2. Choose All Assets users, All Assets admins, or specific groups where access needs to change.

Fixed scope. The assessment starts at the identity layer: human and non-human access, the accounts nobody owns, and what has to be true before an agent gets one. You get the findings, the ownership gaps, and the order to close them in.
